Anna-Lena Schmitt, Josephine Schröder
Research and design by Anna-Lena Schmitt and Josephine Schröder in the context of a workshop format with the same name. They describe the project as follows (translated by the contributor): We researched anger in the context of female socialisation. The aim of our work is to make anger visible. FLINTA* who have changed the world are rarely described as angry, although anger was often their driving force. Due to gender-specific historiography, FLINTA* lack both anger role models and the opportunity to be seen as such themselves. The publication Wuträume (spaces of / for anger) documents our exploration of the topic. It takes you through the workshops and guides you through the thoughts, statements and emotions of the participants. The publication is a workshop to take away. Set in Bastardo by Giulia Boggio, BianZhiDai by Xiaoyuan Gao and Nomo Mono by Lea Johanna Becker.

Louisa Victoria Clever
Designed by Louisa Victoria Clever for her Master thesis at HfK Bremen, Patriarchat mit Todesfolge (“Patriarchy with fatal consequences”) aims at interrogating on gender-based violence worldwide. The project includes an installation (230×120 cm) and a publication (40×57,4 cm). From Clever’s Instagram post (translated): Gender-based violence is one of the most common human rights violations worldwide and the numbers continue to rise. We should move away from the idea that the obvious is enough to overcome patriarchy. The patriarchal structures are deeply rooted everywhere in our system. They are in business, politics, family life and our legal system. These structures provide the breeding ground for the highest level of patriarchal violence: femicide. Hardly discussed or ignored by the system for years, the numbers are still enormously high today. We have to work together to overcome this system and one step among many is thematic discussion. In order to be able to remedy the grievances, we need to know where they come from and where they reach. This is exactly where we have to start and change the system from the ground up so that all people in a society can live equally and self-determinedly.

Turbo Type
Same Bold Stories? Type Design by Women and Queers in the 20th and 21st Centuries is a bilingual publication accompanying the exhibition of the same title (see the dedicated post). From an article written by turbo type for Fontstand (with added links): A book accompanying the exhibition was released on August 23rd, offering an informative theoretical extension to the exhibited works. Essays and interviews by and with contemporary acteurs of the international type scene, such as ALT.tf, Nadine Chahine, Katharina Koch, Laura Meseguer and Teal Triggs, reveal that historiography is rarely “complete” and that gaps can only be filled, if at all, by consciously engaging with them.ly engaging with them. Edited by Klingspor Museum and Naomi Rado, the publication includes contributions by Petra Eisele & Isabel Naegele (UN/SEEN – SEEN), Teal Triggs, Giulia Boggio, Amber Weaver, Nadine Chahine, Laura Meseguer, Katharina Koch, Dorothee Ader, Tatjana Prenzel, Valerij Ledenev, and Naomi Rado. The book design was provided by Leonie Martin of turbo type together with Masha Egorova, using a range of typefaces designed by women and queers. One typeface that’s featured in the book but not shown in the included images is CoFo Sans Mono.

According to Nordico Stadtmuseum, the exhibition What the Fem*? makes a discursive contribution to feminism by placing current artistic positions in dialogue with documentation of local feminist actions and performances from the last 70 years. The exhibits demonstrate how the political movement today, as in the past, has dealt with questions of equality, role attributions and their social consequences. It is precisely this form of debate that What the Fem*? also aims to evoke in the minds of the public.

“With this update came a brand refresh as well. Our goal was to really hone in on the possibilities of balance. The evocative yet sophisticated. The modern yet professional. The bold yet refined. This also reflects the work and experience we have with the best of both worlds.”
